Sunday Morning’s Message –16th August 2026

 

 

Theme:

God is calling all His people to humble themselves, pray, seek His presence and turn back to Him. As we respond to that call, He can bring spiritual renewal that flows into our families, communities and nation.

Awaken our Nation


Key Scripture: 2 Chronicles 7:14

“If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways…”


The Big Idea

God calls all His people to take responsibility for prayer, repentance and seeking His presence. Spiritual renewal in God’s people can become a pathway to renewal in our families, communities and nation.


Discuss Together

1. “If My People”

God didn’t say “if my pastors” or “if my leaders” — He said, “if my people.”

  • What does it mean to you that God has called you to play a part?

  • Where might God be asking you to take greater responsibility in prayer?


2. Humble Yourself and Pray

Humility means recognizing our need for God and depending on Him rather than ourselves.

  • What can get in the way of genuine dependence on God?

  • What does a healthy prayer life look like for you?


3. Seek My Face

Seeking God’s face is more than bringing Him our list of needs — it is pursuing relationship and intimacy with Him.

  • What is the difference between seeking God’s hand and seeking His face?

  • How could you make more room to listen to God?

4. “For Such a Time as This”

Esther was positioned by God at a critical moment and responded by praying, fasting and stepping out in courage.

  • Where might God have positioned you “for such a time as this”?

  • Is there an area where you need to move from silence to courage?


5. Watch and Pray

The message describes the vanguard as those who watch, secure ground and clear the way through prayer.

The vanguard is the leading part of an advancing military formation, moving ahead of the main army to scout for enemies, clear paths, and secure ground.

  • Who or what is God asking you to stand in the gap for in our Nation?

  • What would it look like to keep praying even when you don’t immediately see a breakthrough?


Personal Challenge

This week, choose one person, family, workplace, community issue or area of our nation to intentionally pray for. Ask God:


“Lord, what is Your heart for this situation, and how can I pray in agreement with You?”


Finish With Prayer

Pray for personal renewal, our church, our families and Aotearoa. Ask God to raise up people of integrity and influence, and that His presence would distinguish His people and draw others towards Him, within our government.
